Outcome of Interlaminar Endoscopic Discectomy Compared with Microlumbar Discectomy for Lumbar Disc Herniations
transforaminal approach.IELD was established in the mid-2000s.The full endoscopic interlaminar approach, performed through a uniportal small-diameter working channel 26,27 IELD, provides numerous benefits, including a tiny surgical incision, reduced muscle injury, blood loss, postoperative pain, infection rates, and hospital stay. 26,[28][29]][30][31][32][33][34] On the contrary, microlumbar discectomy (MLD) is regarded as the gold standard globally, demonstrating established safety and success in treating LDH. [35][36]][37][38][39][40] Previous research has emphasized that there is no significant difference in treatment effectiveness between IELD and MLD. 27,[41][42]][43][44][45][46][47] Although open lumbar MD has long been the benchmark for treating LDH, IELD is gaining acceptance as a viable replacement approach. [48][49]9][50] Hence, in this analysis, we aim to collate the outcomes of MLD and IELD performed by a similar surgeon in the same center.
