Reduced-device-count boost self-balancing T-type three-level inverter

Conventional voltage-source inverters achieve boost output by adding a front-stage DC-DC topology, but this complicates the topological structure and control. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a reduced-device-count single-stage active three-phase T-type inverter (TTLBI). In addition to the advantages of single-stage power conversion and continuous input current from three-level (TL) impedance-source inverters, it features high volt-age gain, fewer passive components, and low device voltage stress. Beyond this, the inverter exhibits inherent capacitor voltage self-balancing, i.e., it requires no voltage sensors to balance its capacitor voltages. The working principle and space vector modulation (SVM) method of the inverter are elaborated in detail. It is then compared with other TL impedance-source inverters to highlight its superior performance. Finally, an experimental platform was built to verify its feasibility and performance.
