Crystallographic bibliography of Co-precipitate derived (311) Guite (Co3O4) crystalline materials

Highly crystalline guite phase was successfully synthesized using cobalt nitrate hexahydrate as the precursor and ammonium hydroxide as the precipitant in a simple and unique efficient process. Rietveld refinement analysis confirmed that the material composed entirely of the guite phase of cobalt oxide with a purity of 100 %. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis provided key structural insights, revealing that the guite phase was predominantly crystalline with centrosymmetric characteristics. The XRD data showed lattice parameters a=b=c= 8.0854 Å and angular parameters α= β= γ= 90.0°, confirming the cubic structural symmetry. The most intense diffraction at 36.86° corresponds to the (311) plane. The cubic lattice had a strain of 0.09 % and a volume of 528.566 ų . The specific surface area was calculated 8.27 m²/g and highest crystallinity 58.87 % more than standard ICDD. In FTIR, the specific positions at 552.67 cm −1 and 657.73 cm −1 are consistently reported for cobalt oxide phases. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis combined with selected area electron diffraction (SAED) showed that the synthesized guite predominantly exhibited orientations along the (111), (220) and (311) planes, confirming the presence of a single-phase guite. In the EDS analysis, only cobalt and oxygen signals were detected, indicating the unified materials purity. The atomic percentages of nickel and oxygen were measured as 58.83 % and 41.17 %, respectively. This research integrates crystallinity data to understand the material structure with potential applications in improving guite-based nanotechnologies. • Pure guite phase with 58.87 % crystallinity. • Centrosymmetric cubic structure: a = b = c = 8.0854 Å, α = β = γ = 90°. • Strong (311) diffraction at 2θ = 36.86°. • Calculated lattice strain 0.09 % and volume 528.566 ų . • TEM reveals quasi-spherical morphology.

Abstract

Highly crystalline guite phase was successfully synthesized using cobalt nitrate hexahydrate as the precursor and ammonium hydroxide as the precipitant in a simple and unique efficient process. Rietveld refinement analysis confirmed that the material composed entirely of the guite phase of cobalt oxide with a purity of 100 %.
