Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide/GLP-1 receptor agonists in dermatology: only one piece of the puzzle
GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide/GLP-1 RAs show promise for managing obesity-associated inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa. However, treatment discontinuation often leads to rapid weight regain and reversal of metabolic improvements, raising concerns about potential relapse of skin disease. Behavioural modification remains essential for maintaining therapeutic gains. Clinicians should prioritize structured lifestyle support, patient education and continuing monitoring alongside pharmacotherapy.
