T(h)ree logics - one forest:sustainability as layered enactments of environmental governance
This study explores how the tree is ontological multiple when enacted as sustainable across two Danish forest governance regimes. Three competing, sustainable logics (table 1) – each with their own justification of practices, evaluation of tree value, and measurement of impact – are mobilized, negotiated, and sometimes excluded as they are enacted together within the boundaries of public forests. These logics are interpreted, prioritized, and adapted differently within the enactment of sustainable forest governance regimes; as (1) ‘Sustainable production’, and as (2) ‘Biodiversity restoration’.
