Dimethyl sulfoxide acutely induces shear-dependent thrombosis in flow assays via red blood cell–dependent mechanisms
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), widely used as vehicle solvent in hemostasis research, acutely induces massive platelet aggregation under arterial shear conditions in a dose-, time-, and shear-dependent manner. This red blood cell-dependent prothrombotic effect warrants immediate caution when interpreting microfluidic and flow-based thrombosis assays.
