Whole-genome sequencing of Apilactobacillus kunkeei CA1 isolated from the chinese honey bee revealed a distinct genomic lineage and probiotic potential

This study presents the complete genome sequence of Apilactobacillus kunkeei CA1, isolated from the Chinese honey bee ( Apis cerana cerana ). Through a hybrid sequencing and assembly approach, we obtained a high-quality, circular chromosome of 1,597,781 bp. Comparative genomic analysis revealed that strain CA1 represents a distinct genomic lineage within the A. kunkeei complex and possesses unique genes potentially involved in cellular stability and adaptation. Crucially, bioinformatic analysis confirmed the absence of horizontally transferable antibiotic resistance or virulence genes, supporting its genomic safety. These findings provide a valuable genetic resource for understanding host-specific adaptation and underscore the potential of A. kunkeei CA1 as a safe, native probiotic for bee health applications.
