Dual-band reflective cross-polarization converter using orthogonally coupled slotlines

• A dual-band reflective cross-polarization converter is proposed using orthogonally inserted slotlines. • The design achieves efficient polarization conversion across two distinct frequency bands. • An equivalent circuit model (ECM) is developed, showing excellent agreement with full-wave simulations. • Experimental validation confirms the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed structure. • The compact design offers potential for integration in advanced microwave and antenna systems. This study presents a design and analysis of a dual-band reflective cross-polarization converter that utilizes orthogonally inserted slotlines. The proposed structure features slotlines embedded perpendicularly into the surface, enabling efficient polarization conversion. To elucidate its operational mechanism, an equivalent circuit model (ECM) is developed, providing a theoretical foundation for the design. The ECM is analyzed to illustrate the conversion process and underlying principles. To validate the design, a prototype was fabricated and experimentally tested. Measurement results show strong agreement with simulations, confirming the structure’s accuracy and effectiveness. The polarization rotator successfully converts an incident x-polarized wave into its orthogonal counterpart across two frequency bands: 12–15.5 GHz and approximately 19 GHz. These findings demonstrate the design’s potential for applications requiring precise polarization control in microwave and millimeter-wave systems.
