Case study on thermal management of China's high Economic performance batteries; using phase change material integrated mini-channel heat sinks and cost performance in global energy markets
This study focuses on the thermoregulation of high-performance batteries by using mini-channel heat sinks with Phase Change Materials (PCMs) as well as Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) lattice structures. We performed experimental assessments of the effectiveness of numerical models (ANSYS Fluent 2021 R2), which examined the extent to which they managed the temperature and melted under unidirectional heat flux conditions. Four TPMS geometries: primitive (P7), waveform (P3), droplet (P5) and octahedral (P4) geometries were evaluated along with three PCMs that have different melting points. The findings indicated that the primitive (P7) design, when combined with a low melting point PCM, was the most effective. It reduced the base temperature to 73 °C and melted down in 492 seconds, up to 29 per cent faster than other systems. The combined computational and experimental works produce quantifiable links between the lattice symmetry, thermophysical properties of PCM and the temporary heat regulation. This provides helpful tips on creating less unsafe and more effective battery thermal management systems.
