The Effects of National Brand Reputation on Exports in Emerging Markets
The reputation of a national brand significantly shapes international competitiveness, influencing how products are perceived in foreign markets, particularly in emerging economies marked by uncertainty and information asymmetry. This paper examines the role of national reputation in supporting exports and proposes a conceptual framework explaining how country image affects quality perception, consumer trust, and purchase intention. Drawing on literature from the Countryof-Origin Effect, Nation Branding, and consumer behavior, the study shows that national reputation acts as an extrinsic cue that lowers perceived risk and guides purchasing decisions. The methodology is based on conceptual analysis supported by examples and existing studies. The paper outlines implications for firms and public authorities, emphasizing coherent country branding strategies and public–private cooperation. The conclusions highlight that a strong country reputation can provide competitive advantages in emerging markets, helping increase exports and strengthen the international position of domestic products.
