2025 Year‐End Metrics
I am pleased to present the following metrics on the Journal of Dental Education for the calendar year 2025. (a) Submissions: In 2025, the JDE received over 1000 original article submissions, which include the articles submitted for the Advancing Through Innovation series (see Section d, below). Our global standing as a desirable journal remains high and steady. In 2025, we received submissions from authors in 67 countries, compared with 68 countries in 2024. The top countries by submission were the United States (344), Turkey (103), China (91), Brazil (71), India (68), Canada (35), Saudi Arabia (33), Iran (26), Australia (20), and Malaysia (17). (b) Acceptance: The accept-to-reject ratio for all articles in 2025 (including Advancing Through Innovation) was 30%:70%. In 2025, the top numbers of accepted manuscripts by country were from the United States (142); China (17); Canada (14); Turkey (11); Australia (7); Brazil (6); Saudi Arabia and India (5 each); and Chile, Germany, Spain, and Japan (3 each). (c) Articles published: In 2025, we published 366 articles online (articles are first published online and later in a formal issue) and 158 articles in issues. (d) Advancing Through Innovation: Started in March 2020, this article type serves as a channel for dental educators to quickly share their innovations and adaptations in teaching and education. Articles, which are limited to 500 words, five references, and three tables or figures, provide scholarly insights that are not completed research, yet they meet our standards of originality, clarity of approach, and significance through a rapid peer-review process. In 2025, we had 159 submissions and accepted 70 for publication, compared with 124 submissions and 48 accepted articles in 2024. Additionally, the JDE published two online-only supplements in June and December 2025 dedicated to these articles. (e) Usage: In 2025, there were 365,827 full-text views of articles on the JDE website, about a 10% increase from the previous year. JDE's articles are viewed by readers in over 200 countries; for 2025, the countries with the most full-text views were the United States, China, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, and South Korea. (f) Citations. Wiley became the JDE's publisher in January 2020 and began collecting bibliometric data on JDE articles published since 2019. (g) Other published works: In 2025, we published three Association Reports. We continued to begin each issue with either an invited guest editorial or an editor's note. We published a special issue in May with over 20 articles exploring the findings from the 2022 ADEA Climate Study (the articles in this issue have collectively received over 5400 full-text views since May). As is done each year, the February issue included the Poster and TechExpo Abstracts for the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, and a supplement to the July issue consisted of the ADEA Annual Proceedings. (h) Peer-review process: In 2025, the average time from submission to first decision was 21 days. The average time a manuscript spent in review (which includes more than one review of revised manuscripts) was 52 days. In 2025, the JDE received over 1000 article submissions; for those manuscripts that went through peer review, our reviewers collectively submitted over 2400 reviews. We acknowledge those reviewers who conducted two or more reviews by publishing their names annually in the February issue. For 2025, we are acknowledging 293 reviewers in this way. (i) Impact factor: Our 2024 Impact Factor, released in summer 2025, was 1.6, up slightly from the previous year's 1.4. We look forward to your feedback as we continue to strive to ensure that the journal serves the needs of our readers and authors as well as dental education.
