Considerations on Romania's Rural Population. 2020-2025

The population represents one of the most substantial resources of a country. Processes such as: demographic decline, aging, migration profoundly affect its development, which in turn causes significant socio-economic effects. Permanent transformations mark both the population in urban areas and that of rural areas, which is all the more vulnerable as it is also subject to multiple other constraints and challenges. The present study aims to identify the dynamics recorded by the rural population of Romania in the period 2020-2025, those years being strongly marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also by a series of other social and economic changes. What developments characterize the indigenous rural population in this period, what are the trends outlined, what were the reconfigurations produced? These are questions whose answers will facilitate our deepening knowledge of the current stage of the evolution of the indigenous rural population, all viewed in the broader context of discussions related to the future of the Romanian rural space.
