Fractional proportional resonant controllers for AC systems

ENG- As the world becomes more electrified, achieving precision and efficiency in managing electrical systems is essential to guarantee both reliability and high performance. Power converters governed by high-frequency current control and systems regulated by voltage control are at the heart of cutting-edge technologies such as renewable energy, power electronics, and advanced automation. These systems require sophisticated control techniques to manage their increasing complexity. This leads us to three central questions: How can we develop control strategies that better adapt to the intricacies and high demands of high-frequency systems? In what ways can fractional resonant controllers boost the stability and effectiveness of voltage-controlled setups? Is it feasible to apply these new resonant controllers to low-cost applications, such as the increasingly relevant field of lithium-ion battery characterization? These are the core challenges we addressed in the PhD thesis Fractional proportional resonant controllers for AC systems, developed by Daniel Heredero Peris with UdG (Universitat de Girona) and under supervision of Dr. Joaquim Melendez. This PhD thesis presents relevant results in open access at: Complex Order Fractional Proportional Resonant Controller for High-Frequency Applications (https://doi.org/10.1109/OJIES.2024.3521972). What are the design challenges for high-frequency current control systems? This paper presents a complex-order fractional proportional resonant (PR) controller tailored to meet the specific demands of high-frequency environments. The proposed method shows enhanced flexibility and resilience, offering a fresh take on controller design and outperforming traditional fractional real-order methods. Analysis of Fractional Resonant Controllers for Voltage-Controlled Applications (https://doi.org/10.3390/app142210259). How do fractional resonant controllers contribute to improved voltage control? This study offers an in-depth evaluation of fractional resonant controllers within voltage-regulated systems. It highlights their capacity to deliver improved stability and accuracy, paving the way for more dependable and efficient control solutions.
