Capillary-Assisted Ultrafast and Large-Area Perovskite Nanocrystal Patterning Technology for Color Conversion Micro-LED Displays

Perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have shown great potential as color conversion layers (CCLs) for full-color micro-LED displays, offering high resolution, exceptional color purity, and an expanded color gamut. However, achieving large-area, time-efficient, and straightforward patterning of PNC arrays remains a significant challenge. Here, we propose capillary-assisted ultrafast PNC patterning (CAP) technology, depositing PNCs into laser-processed through-hole glass with micron-scale arrays via immersing the THG in the PNC colloids, capillary filling, and solvent evaporation processes. A 70 cm2 single-color PNC CCL is fabricated in about 2 min. Due to rational PNC design and the mild, nondestructive CAP process, the CCLs maintain high photoluminescence quantum yields after 100 days of ambient storage and 4 h of continuous blue-light irradiation. Finally, a 0.7 in. proof-of-concept full-color micro-LED panel, using CAP-fabricated red/green CCLs, exhibits excellent color conversion performance, highlighting its potential for scalable, high-quality PNC patterning in advanced displays.
