Enterprise Orbit Diagram
The Enterprise Orbit Diagram is a strategic visualization model that helps organizations understand and communicate their software ecosystem from a business-centered perspective. Rather than focusing on system design or integrations, the model identifies which systems define the organization’s core business identity and which systems support or enable its operations. The diagram represents enterprise software assets as elements orbiting a central Business Core, which reflects the organization’s most critical and irreducible business capability. The relative position of each system conveys its strategic importance, dependency level, and business relevance. The Enterprise Orbit Diagram is especially useful in discovery phases, modernization initiatives, and environments where system documentation is fragmented, outdated, or difficult to interpret across business and technical stakeholders. It provides a shared visualization that supports strategic discussions, governance, and decision-making.
