The Transformation of Human Capital in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: A Critical Analysis

Objective - To analyze how human capital is transforming in the digital era and what strategic steps need to be taken to strengthen it. This paper examines the transformation of human capital in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The rapid pace of technological innovation is significantly changing the labor market, educational requirements, and the value of skills. The article discusses how AI is impacting the structure and function of human resources, especially in terms of aspects such as knowledge capital, critical thinking, creative skills, and emotional intelligence. Research method – The paper is based on a critical analysis and an interdisciplinary approach that combines both theoretical research and contextual analysis to study the transformation of human capital in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The main methodological components of the study are: literature review, comparative analysis – the practices of different countries and sectors are studied, which demonstrate the impact of AI on human capital. Normative and strategic analysis – the study is focused not only on the existing reality, but also on the formulation of forecasts and recommendations that will contribute to the sustainable development of human capital in line with technological progress. Results - Findings suggest that despite the risks of automation, human capital continues to grow in value, especially in areas that cannot be replaced by technology, such as creativity, ethical reasoning, negotiation, and human-centered collaboration. The research also highlights that coexistence with AI requires not only technical capabilities but also cultural adaptability and values-based orientation. Originality/value/implications/recommendations - The paper offers targeted recommendations for policymakers, academic institutions, and the private sector to foster sustainable, inclusive, and AI-compatible human capital development. Continuous education, personal development, and experience-centered approaches to workforce transformation are identified as crucial strategies in the evolving labor landscape.
