Unipolar/Bipolar 0-1 MHz Arbitrary Pulse Generator Using an Ultrafast Series-Stacked 20 kV MOSFET Module

High-voltage nanosecond pulse generators are increasingly employed in industrial applications and for research and development, where fast, repetitive high-voltage pulses are required. Depending on the application, variations in frequency, pulse polarity, and waveform shape are often necessary. This paper presents a simple ultrafast pulse generator based on a series-stacked 20 kV MOSFET module capable of producing unipolar/bipolar pulses with arbitrary waveforms. The proposed topology, including a high-voltage AC-DC converter and seriesstacked MOSFETs, is described in detail. Experimental results demonstrate the capability to generate positive, negative, and bipolar rectangular nanosecond pulses. The generator reliably produces pulses with peak-to-peak voltages up to 20 kV under a 30 A load, at operating frequencies from 0 to 1 MHz, either periodically or in burst mode, while respecting the topology's average power limit. Output parameters are fully adjustable according to user-defined waveform patterns.
