Generalized dispersion model based analysis on the chemically reactive drug delivery treatment through atherosclerotic artery using various catheters
The application of catheter in the treatment of atherosclerotic artery has been an advancement in the biomedical field. However, the simultaneous presence of stenosis and a catheter within the artery alters the haemodynamics and transport phenomena, which can potentially interfere with the effectiveness of medicine. This study explores the effects of different catheter types on unsteady solute dispersion in a stenosed artery undergoing catheterization treatment while considering chemical reactions. The present research models the blood rheology using the Herschel–Bulkley (H–B) model, which is suitable for the narrow flow region of the catheterized stenosed artery. The unsteady convective-diffusion equation is used to describe solute dispersion and is solved through the generalized dispersion model (GDM) approach to obtain the mean concentration and diffusion coefficient. The effects of different catheter types and stenosis sizes are investigated through graphical plotting. The analysis reveals that a larger catheter radius or stenosis height decreases the diffusion coefficient, subsequently leading to a higher solute mean concentration locally. Additionally, an increase in the catheter radius or stenosis height also increases the time at which the peak mean concentration occurs within the artery. However, an increase in the chemical reaction rate decreases the diffusion coefficient while decreasing the mean concentration. The implementation of real-life catheter data closely depicts realistic arterial catheterization results, contributing to the theoretical aspects of the biomedical field. This contribution aligns with the sustainability goal of good health and well-being.
