29. Feasibility analysis and research on poetry therapy based on psychological theory to improve symptoms of depression IN adolescents
Abstract Background According to the World Health Organization, approximately 438 million people worldwide suffer from depression, with adolescents being a high-risk group. According to data from the National Institute of Mental Health in the United States, approximately 3.2% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 suffer from severe depression within one year. Adolescent depression is a common mental health problem that can affect the emotions, thinking, and behavior of adolescents. This emotional disorder may lead to difficulties for adolescents in academic, social, and family life. Therefore, in order to alleviate the negative impact of depression on adolescents, research has proposed poetry therapy based on psychological theory. Methods 100 adolescents with depression were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 50 individuals in each group. The control group was treated with conventional medication, while the experimental group was treated with a combination of conventional medication and poetry therapy based on psychological theory. Use the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) to assess the psychological status of patients. Results The SDS scores of each group after intervention are shown in Table 1. There was no statistically significant difference in SDS scores among the two groups of patients before intervention (p>.05), indicating comparability between the groups. According to Table 1, compared to the control group, the SDS score of the experimental group significantly decreased (p<.05). In terms of emotional symptoms, the scores of the experimental group and the control group were 4.3 ± 0.45 and 4.6 ± 0.52, respectively (p<.05); The scores for depression and psychological disorders were 17.6 ± 2.85 and 19.2 ± 3.12, respectively (p<.05); The total SDS scores of the two were 53.4 ± 13.42 and 61.2 ± 14.78, respectively (p<.05). The above results indicate that the proposed method can effectively improve adolescent depression. Discussion The research results show that the intervention effect of conventional medication combined with poetry therapy based on psychological theory on adolescent depression is significantly better than that of conventional medication alone. The SDS total score, emotional symptoms, physical disorders and other dimensions scores of the experimental group are significantly lower than those of the control group (p<.05). Poetry therapy may provide adolescents with a safe channel for emotional release through psychological mechanisms of emotional expression and cognitive restructuring, assist medication in regulating emotional center function, and thereby improve depression related symptoms. Due to the limited sample size of the study and the lack of long-term tracking of efficacy stability, it is necessary to expand the sample size and extend the follow-up time in the future to further verify the long-term effects and differences in the applicable population of poetry therapy.
