A Study of Climate Change and Its Impact on the Coastal Communities of Odisha
Coastal Odisha is exposed to significant climate risks, including rising sea levels, increased cyclonic activity, coastal erosion, and ecosystem degradation. The Puri District, characterized by low elevation, extensive river systems, and dependence on agriculture and fishing, is particularly susceptible to these hazards. Such challenges jeopardize water security, livelihoods, and ecological stability, highlighting the necessity for a comprehensive assessment. This study investigates the impacts of climate change on the Puri coastline, focusing on erosion, groundwater dynamics, and land use. Employing descriptive and analytical methodologies and secondary data from governmental and scientific sources, the research evaluates shoreline changes, groundwater fluctuations, climate trends, land-use patterns, and irrigation practices. Trends, comparative analyses, and descriptive statistics are used to assess transformations in coastal conditions, water resources, and climate vulnerability.
