Manuscript Draft -- A social-ecological systems approach to live music research
This paper proposes Nobel Prize-winning economist Elinor Ostrom’s social-ecological systems framework (SESF) as a basis for assessing the actors, governance systems, and resources that shape local live music scenes. Applying the SESF to data collected in Mannheim during an international research project, the authors show how it can be used to integrate quantitative and qualitative data into a structured, vivid, and communicable portrait of local musical life.
