Monte Carlo Study on a Double Slit-Compton-Type Reconstruction-Free Imaging Method for Double Photon Emission Nuclides

Compton imaging has a wide range of applications in medical imaging. However, traditional Compton imaging requires complex algorithms and considerable computational time, limiting its practicality and real-time applications such as intra-operative imaging. We propose a novel reconstruction-free method using double photon emission nuclides with double slit collimation and validate its performance through Geant4 simulations. The demonstrated image shows clear separation of the three different source locations for 43K point sources without reconstruction process.

Abstract

Compton imaging has a wide range of applications in medical imaging. However, traditional Compton imaging requires complex algorithms and considerable computational time, limiting its practicality and real-time applications such as intra-operative imaging. We propose a novel reconstruction-free method using double photon emission nuclides with double slit collimation and validate its performance through Geant4 simulations. The demonstrated image shows clear separation of the three different source locations for 43K point sources without reconstruction process.
