NHS Consultants and Their Use of Private Medical Insurance
In this exploratory survey, self-funded PMI ownership among responding NHS hospital consultants appeared higher than published estimates for the UK general population. Faster access to healthcare was the most commonly reported motivation. Given the low response rate and potential for selection bias, these findings should be interpreted cautiously and may not be truly representative of the group as a whole. Further studies with larger, more representative samples are required to better understand healthcare access perceptions among senior NHS clinicians.
