Erratum for the Research Article “WAPL functions as a rheostat of Protocadherin isoform diversity that controls neural wiring”

In the Research Article “WAPL functions as a rheostat of Protocadherin isoform diversity that controls neural wiring” by L. Kiefer et al. (23 June 2023, 10.1126/science.adf8440), Fig. 5B and fig. S5A compared gene expression between olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) and serotonergic neurons (5-HTs) using RNA-sequencing data generated in the authors’ laboratory for OSNs and published data for 5-HTs [(1), cited as reference 39 in the Research Article]. This analysis concluded that 5-HTs express higher levels of the cohesin unloader WAPL than do OSNs. The authors subsequently identified unaccounted differences between the datasets, including cDNA library preparation. Reanalysis showed that 5-HT neurons exhibit a higher WAPL-to-Rad21 (cohesin subunit) mRNA ratio than OSNs, consistent with the original conclusion. The authors have updated fig. S5A. Independent validation using RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) confirmed higher WAPL expression and a higher WAPL/Rad21 ratio in 5-HTs relative to OSNs in the updated Fig. 5B.

Abstract

In the Research Article “WAPL functions as a rheostat of Protocadherin isoform diversity that controls neural wiring” by L. Kiefer et al. (23 June 2023, 10.1126/science.adf8440), Fig. 5B and fig. 5B.
