Chlorohexidine Crack Disinfection: A Novel Concept for Crack Management in Vital Teeth
Background Successful management of crown originating dental fractures requires cuspal coverage restorations. This case report describes a protocol for fracture line treatment aiming to maintain pulp vitality in cracked teeth before crown placement.Case Description An occlusal dentin fracture line in the crown of a maxillary molar with vital pulp was disinfected with 0.12% chlorohexidine gluconate, followed by acid etching and sealing with a dentin adhesive. The tooth was restored with a gold crown. The tooth has been asymptomatic, functional, with vital pulp responses, and no radiographic deterioration over a 10-year follow-up period.
