Numerical Investigation of Overpressure Characteristics of Shock Waves at Corners Induced by Internal Explosions

To reveal the overpressure distribution characteristics of explosion shock waves in different corner regions of a sealed chamber and to identify their influencing factors, a combined experimental and numerical simulation approach was employed to systematically investigate shock-wave overpressure responses at corners under varying structural dimensions and explosive yield conditions. The reliability of the simulation model was validated by comparing the experimental data with the corresponding numerical simulation results. The results showed that the relative error of the overpressure peak was 11.14%, which satisfied engineering accuracy requirements, indicating that the numerical model can accurately capture the propagation, reflection, and superposition processes of shock waves within enclosed spaces. On this basis, seven compartment models with different structural size ratios and seven operating conditions with varying explosive yields were designed. The shock-wave overpressure characteristics in both dihedral and trihedral corner regions were systematically analyzed. The results indicated that as the structural size ratio of the chamber increased, multiple shock-wave reflections and superposition effects within the chamber gradually diminished. Consequently, the overpressure convergence capacity at dihedral and trihedral corners decreased, while the relative area occupied by high-overpressure zones at wall corners within the overall wall surface was significantly reduced. In contrast, as the explosive yield increased, the shock-wave energy within the compartment increased significantly, thereby expanding the influence range of wall corner regions. The overpressure convergence effect at both dihedral and trihedral corners was simultaneously enhanced, exhibiting a more pronounced concentration of high overpressure levels. Based on dimensional analysis and combined with numerical simulation results, a parametric analysis of corner shock-wave overpressure loads was conducted, leading to the development of an empirical formula for calculating wall-corner shock-wave overpressure. These findings provide a theoretical basis and practical engineering references for the blast-resistant design and safety assessment of enclosed compartment structures.
