An exploration of neighborhood satisfaction, health behaviors and social well-being across household profiles in Pathum Thani, Thailand

This research aims to examine the association between neighborhood satisfaction, healthy behaviors and social well-being in relation to household characteristics. A survey employing the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) was conducted through face-to-face interviews with residents from seven districts in Pathum Thani, Thailand. A total of 659 participants provided comprehensive responses. The analytical process was structured into two distinct phases. The first step examined the relationship between neighborhood satisfaction, healthy behaviors and social well-being. The second step assessed the association between neighborhood satisfaction, healthy behaviors and social well-being across different household characteristics. A multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationships between variables. The results indicate that variations in household characteristics significantly affect physical activity, neighborhood satisfaction related to neighborhood activities, social well-being and mental health. Thus, urban planning and environmental interventions should prioritize the promotion and facilitation of community-based activities that enhance social interaction. These efforts are integral to fostering healthier, more cohesive and sustainable urban environments. • This study examines the relationships among neighborhood satisfaction, healthy behaviors and social well-being in relation to household characteristics in Pathum Thani, Thailand. • Data was collected through face-to-face interviews with 659 residents from seven districts of Pathum Thani using the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ). • The analysis was conducted in two phases: the first explored overall associations, while the second assessed variations across household characteristics. • The results reveal that household characteristics significantly influence levels of physical activity, satisfaction with neighborhood activities, social well-being and mental health. • These findings underscore the importance of urban planning and environmental strategies that foster community-based activities to promote healthier, more cohesive and sustainable urban environments.
