ASSESSMENT OF THE TECHNICAL INCIDENT RISK ON THE NATIONAL POWER SYSTEM

Assessing the technical incident risk on an power system is a essential process for ensuring the reliable and safe operation of critical infrastructure. This process involves identifying, analysing and managing risks that could affect the performance of the energy system. The following activities become very essential: Identification of risks (analysis of possible sources of technical incidents, including: transformer failures, generators, power lines, human error in operation and maintenance and extreme weather phenomena, and, cyberattacks and earthquakes), Risk analysis (assessment of the probability of occurrence of an incident, determination of the impact on the energy system: financial losses, power outages, environmental effects and risk classification according to severity and urgency), Risk management and reduction (implementation of real-time monitoring and diagnosis systems, improvement of predictive and preventive maintenance, preventive, increasing the cyber and physical security of infrastructure and rapid intervention plans and operational continuity strategies. Assessment of the technical incident risk is essential to prevent power outages and reduce negative impact on users. Through a proactive approach, the resilience and efficiency of the power system can be improved.
