ANTI-CORROSION PROTECTION THROUGH SELF-HEALING METHODS
Corrosion is one of the most common causes of degradation in metallic materials, leading to significant economic losses and structural risks across various industrial sectors. In this context, self-healing coatings have emerged as an innovative solution for extending the service life of metals by providing active protection against corrosion. These coatings possess the ability to repair microdamages in the protective layer either by releasing corrosion inhibitors or through chemical restructuring of the coating matrix. This paper aims to provide a synthesis of the latest technologies and materials used in the development of such systems, highlighting self-healing mechanisms, advantages over conventional coatings, as well as current limitations and challenges in their industrial-scale implementation. Through this analysis, the study seeks to outline future research directions for the development of more efficient, durable, and environmentally friendly coatings.
