CURRENT STATE OF MICROPLASMA WELDING
Microplasma welding (MPW) represents an advanced evolution of plasma arc welding, offering precise, low heat joining solutions for thin metallic materials, particularly below 1 mm thickness. By utilizing a stable pilot arc and a constricted plasma jet, MPW achieves superior arc stability, minimal heat-affected zones, and high-quality welds even at currents as low as 0.1 A. This article examines the technical principles behind microplasma welding, compares its performance against TIG and laser welding, and highlights its applications in aerospace, medical device manufacturing, and precision engineering. Emphasis is placed on current challenges, including arc stability at ultra-low currents, automation integration, and the need for continued technological innovation to meet the demands of modern microfabrication.
