MATHEMATICAL MODELING AND SIMULATION OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN SCHOOL/OFFICE BUILDINGS USING ENERGYPLUS AND OPENSTUDIO

This paper presents a mathematical modeling approach for analyzing and optimizing the energy consumption of school buildings using EnergyPlus, a powerful simulation engine developed by the U.S. Department of Energy. The study focuses on the creation of a 3D model of an educational building and the implementation of HVAC systems and occupancy schedules to reflect realistic usage patterns. By integrating thermodynamic principles with simulation-based analysis, the model allows for the assessment of various energy-saving strategies, including improved insulation, lighting retrofits, and ventilation optimization. The results demonstrate how energy performance can be predicted and improved through model-based design, contributing to sustainable development goals in educational infrastructure. This approach supports decision-making for facility managers and designers, offering a cost-effective path toward reducing energy demand and carbon emissions in public buildings.
