Understanding Perceived Employability: A Systematic Review and Thematic Analysis

This study establishes the need for a robust theoretical framework to effectively evaluate the concept of employability (EC) and its related dimensions. Although diverse definitions of EC exist, a systematic review was essential to clarify its evolution, key contributors, and perceived employability determinants (PED). Using a comprehensive search across Eight electronic databases (1960–2024), 45 relevant studies were analyzed through word cloud generation and thematic analysis in NVivo to identify recurring patterns and themes. Findings reveal that perceived Employability arises from the interaction between the individual capabilities—such as skills, motivation, and adaptability—and external enablers, including education systems, organizations, and policy frameworks. The study recommends fostering a collaborative ecosystem where individuals, universities, employers, and governments jointly build supportive pathways that strengthen employability and empower individuals to navigate the labor market with confidence.
