Effective Management of Epigastric Pain Using Intercostal Nerve Block: A Case Report
Abstract Epigastric pain can arise from a variety of underlying conditions, presenting a significant challenge in effective pain management. This case report highlights the successful use of an intercostal nerve block (ICNB) as an intervention for persistent epigastric pain in a 50-year-old patient. Despite initial treatments including analgesics and physical therapy, the patient’s pain remained inadequately controlled. An ICNB was administered, targeting the affected nerve root at the level of pain. The procedure resulted in immediate and sustained pain relief, with the patient reporting considerable improvement in pain scores and enhanced quality of life post-intervention. This case demonstrates the ICNB efficacy as a viable alternative for managing difficult-to-treat epigastric pain, offering a minimally invasive and effective option for patients with similar symptoms. Further studies could validate these findings and refine treatment protocols.
