PROGRAM PLANNING OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASES CONTROL (MALARIA, DIARRHOEA, MEASLES, AND INFECTIOUS SKIN CONDITIONS), IN WAABER DISTRICT, MOGADISHU, SOMALIA. (Template, Learning issue) In Waaberi District, communicable diseases such as malaria, diarrhoea, measles, and skin infections remain prevalent due to a combination of insufficient preventive measures, low hygiene and sanitation coverage, inconsistent immunization uptake, limited community health awareness, and weak disease surveillance. These conditions result in sustained transmission, frequent outbreaks, and substantial disease burden — particularly among children, pregnant women, and low-income households. Gap in community-level health education and early referral systems further hampers efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases. Without structured interventions, communicable diseases are likely to continue contributing to high outpatient visits, hospital admissions, and preventable deaths in the district. 3. Program Goal To reduce the incidence and impact of priority communicable diseases — malaria, diarrhoea, measles, and skin infections — among the population of Waaberi District through enhanced prevention, early diagnosis, effective treatment, and community engagement over a 3-year period. 4. Program Objectives A. General Objectives Strengthen community-level disease prevention and health promotion activities to reduce transmission of malaria, diarrhoea, measles, and common communicable skin diseases. Improve early detection, reporting, and management of these diseases through enhanced surveillance systems and health facility capacities. B. Specific Objectives (SMART) 1. Prevention & Health Promotion Increase mosquito net usage: Distribute long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) to at least 80% of households in Waaberi and promote consistent use by end of Year 2. Improve immunization coverage: Achieve ≥95% measles vaccination coverage among children aged 9–59 months in the district by the end of Year 3 through routine immunization and targeted campaigns. Enhance WASH practices: Conduct monthly hygiene and sanitation education sessions in communities and schools to reduce incidence of diarrhoeal diseases.
