No Kids, No Problems: Exploring the Lived Experiences of Child-free Filipino Millenials

This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of Filipino Millennials who have consciously chosen to live a child-free life. Using a phenomenological approach, the research seeks to understand the personal motivations, cultural influences, and societal pressures that shape this non-traditional life decision. In-depth interviews were conducted with purposefully selected participants who identify as child-free by choice. Thematic analysis revealed key themes such as autonomy and the rejection of social expectations, financial and lifestyle considerations, early family experiences, and defiance of traditional gender roles. Participants expressed a strong sense of self-determination and fulfillment in their decision, while also acknowledging the challenges of navigating societal judgments and familial expectations. The study sheds light on the evolving concept of adulthood and parenthood in the Philippine context, offering valuable insights into how generational values, identity, and social norms intersect with reproductive choices. These findings contribute to the growing discourse on reproductive autonomy and the acceptance of diverse life paths in contemporary Filipino society.
