The Dark Days of The Soul

The Dark Days of The Soul is a special selection of days taken from the major series Monthly Evaluations, which Ioana Neme?? formulated between 2005 and 2010 (earlier iterations dating from 2003‐2005 and later from 2010‐2011) out of a desire ‘to record, dissect, understand and describe intangibles such as life or time.’ In a process of extreme honesty, the artist devised a set of parameters for evaluating and visualising each day: P [physical], E [emotional], I [intellectual], F [financial] and L [luck], all of which are rated on a scale from −10 to +10. Each evaluation also contains a text that captures the essence of that day, the date, a very precise choice of colour–an attempt to elaborate a vocabulary of emotions, inspired by the theories of Swiss psychologist Max L??scher on emotion and colour–alongside its overall assessment (+/−/=). The selection, realised with the help of the Ioana Neme?? Archive, is at the intersection of diary, self-evaluation and meditations on broader themes.
