IgA Vasculitis in a Patient with Type 2 Diabetes Complicated by Severe Diabetic Nephropathy

We encountered a case of IgA vasculitis in a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus and severe renal failure (CKD classification; grade IV). A typical skin rash was seen on both lower extremities, which led us to believe that the patient had IgA vasculitis. The goal of treating IgA vasculitis was to prevent the need for hemodialysis. We admitted the patient to the hospital and initiated steroid therapy. After 3 weeks of hospitalization and treatment, the patient was transferred to outpatient care. We have been able to continue outpatient management without switching to hemodialysis.
