Ontology Enhanced Gaia-X Compliant Marketplace of Digital Twins for the Energy Sector

Data spaces play an essential role in the climateneutral digital transformation of the European energy sector. Although all data spaces should be interoperable and connectable within the Gaia-X framework, the actual seamless integration of diverse data within a data space remains a significant open challenge due to the use of varying software components. This inherent complexity, coupled with a lack of easily deployable solutions, represents a substantial barrier to participation, especially for small and medium-sized Enterprises. The presented marketplace framework facilitates rapid deployment while maintaining scalability. It enables complete containerization, allowing for the fast adoption of its technology within existing or emerging data space infrastructures. Thus, it directly addresses existing gaps by minimizing the impact of the underlying data space technology on users. In addition, the framework establishes a rigorous and objective evaluation algorithm based on the Digital Twins Maturity Index. This study evaluates the benefits and added value of the proposed framework in an energy marketplace use case and critically examines the data acquisition process in performance experiments.
