AI with agency, cities with resilience: deploying agentic systems for urban disaster response
Modern urban centers are facing escalating challenges from natural disasters, which necessitates the implementation of intelligent coordination mechanisms for resources and emergency responders. This research introduces an agent-based artificial intelligence framework designed to autonomously integrate a variety of multimodal data sources. The goal is to achieve comprehensive situational awareness and optimize emergency operations in real-time. A review of existing literature examines architectural approaches and coordination strategies relevant to distributed resource management within urban environments. Through the utilization of urban digital twin sim-ulations and standard baseline comparisons, the study demonstrates that autonomous multi-agent systems have the potential to significantly reduce response times and improve overall resource utilization during emergencies. The performance of the proposed framework is evaluated based on key metrics such as response latency, cover-age area, and resource efficiency. Furthermore, the research addresses critical ethical considerations, including fairness, privacy, and accountability issues that may arise when deploying agent-based systems in urban settings. The findings of this study suggest that intelligent agents can play a crucial role in enhancing urban resilience by rapidly reallocating assets and facilitating adaptive communication strategies during crisis situations.
