Overcoming Social and Resource‐Based Barriers to Circular Economy: The Role of Eco‐Tech Awareness and Financial Support
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to examine the barriers to circular economy (CE) practices in manufacturing industries. Utilizing the resource‐based view (RBV), the study focuses on the mediating roles of eco‐technology awareness (ETA) and financial assistance for CE (FACE) in mitigating these obstacles. A quantitative approach was used with data collection from 212 mid‐ and senior‐level managers working in the manufacturing sector, and then analyzing both direct and indirect effects through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM), including the importance–performance map analysis (IPMA) to pinpoint areas with the greatest potential to drive CE adoption. The study results establish the key importance of ETA in CE implementation. ETA helps CE adoption first by facilitating technological know‐how to overcome barriers, and then by enabling access to funding. Furthermore, the presence of social barriers was found to moderate the influence of technical constraints, highlighting the necessity for CE strategies to incorporate both technical and social perspectives. By close analysis of financial, technical, and social aspects, the paper provides valuable information for industry professionals. Ultimately, it contributes to the CE literature by advocating a multifaceted approach addressing challenges from different perspectives and enhancing ongoing organizational commitment to sustainability.
