(O-27) Sexual function after NEOVAGINOPLASTY with Nile TILAPIA skin
Abstract Introduction Vaginoplasty using Nile tilapia skin is an innovative technique that has shown promising results. However, data on sexual satisfaction in women who have undergone this procedure remain limited. Objective To evaluate sexual satisfaction and function in patients after vaginoplasty with Nile tilapia skin. Methods This was a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study conducted at a teaching hospital in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Participants completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Inclusion criteria: women over 18 years of age who had undergone the surgery within the past 8 years. Exclusion citeria: patients who underwent vaginoplasty using other techniques. Results Twenty-four patients aged 22 to 62 years (median 27.5) were included. Most were single (80%), had more than 8 years of education (90%), identified as mixed race (62%), and all reported being heterosexual. Vaginal length ranged from 4 to 10 cm. Based on FSFI results, sexual function was rated as very good or good in 16 patients and poor in 8 patients. Regarding the six FSFI domains—desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain—the average scores were 3.6, 4.5, 5.85, 5.0, 5.0, and 5.2, respectively. No clear correlation was found between vaginal length and sexual function, as some patients with shorter neovaginas reported good sexual satisfaction, underscoring the complexity and multidimensional nature of sexuality. Conclusion Neovaginoplasty using Nile tilapia skin demonstrated favorable outcomes in terms of sexual function. Further studies with larger samples are needed to clarify a possible association with neovaginal length. Financing No conflict.
