Bete Giyorgis as a Precessional Instrument (version 4) The reign of the Northern Cross at 12° north, the four lips of the pit, the Polaris frame of the church, and the two windows — superseding versions 1–3

This version replaces the deposit of March 2026 under the earlier title, and the reader is asked to take nothing from that deposit that is not restated here. The following are withdrawn. (1) The claim that Sadr transited the zenith of Lalibela in the seventeenth to fourteenth millennia BCE: the computed sky places the star within seven degrees of the celestial pole in that window, seventy degrees from the zenith, and the star’s declination never approaches +12° at any epoch. (2) The cardinal orientation of 179.7° and 90.4°: the author’s own measurements on north-calibrated imagery give axes of 5.57° and 95.92°, an orthogonal frame tilted 5.7° east of north. (3) The table of window azimuths (61.2°, 238.9°, 304.3°, 125.6°) and their attribution to the solstices and the major lunar standstill: the source cited for them could not be verified, and the attributions do not survive recomputation at this latitude, where the summer-solstice sunrise stands near 66° and its sunset near 293°, and the major standstill moonrise near 119° to 121° for horizon altitudes of 0° to 4° and its northern moonset near 299°; an azimuth of 125.6° corresponds to a declination near −34°, which no Moon reaches. (4) The citation of a differential-GPS survey in Azania and the attribution of a Petrie-method survey to Álvares, a sixteenth-century chaplain: both removed. (5) The combined-probability estimate built on the withdrawn items. What is retained is stated below with the computations that support it, and nothing rests on any window azimuth until the windows are surveyed.
