(PM-11) Physiotherapeutic approach for patients with Rokitansky syndrome

Abstract Introduction Mayer–Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser (MRKH) Syndrome is a congenital disorder characterized by the absence or underdevelopment of the uterus and upper portion of the vagina in women with 46,XX karyotype. Management include the use of vaginal dilators or surgical creation of a neovagina. Physiotherapy plays a pivotal role in supporting conservative treatment, contributing to body awareness and the healthy expression of sexuality. Objectives To conduct educational discussion groups with women diagnosed with Rokitansky Syndrome (RS), providing information on anatomy, sexuality, and available treatments, while identifying their main challenges. Additionally, to develop an educational booklet informed by the experiences and needs reported during the sessions, supporting these women. Methodology Three online monthly meetings were held with women diagnosed with RS. With participants’ consent, sessions were recorded and addressed topics including anatomy, vaginal dilation, sexuality and quality of life. Digital forms were used for participant identification, informed consent and collection of prior questions. A thematic framework was developed from analysis of the discussions and survey responses, which guided the creation of an educational booklet. The material underwent review by healthcare professionals and a woman living with RS, and was produced using the Canva platform. Results Three main thematic categories emerged from discussion groups: Anatomy, Quality of Life and Sexuality/Dilation. Participants’ accounts highlighted the scarcity of accessible, reliable information and the emotional impacts associated with RS. Educational interventions through structured discussions, coupled with the development of an informative booklet, represent strategies to expand access to high-quality information, foster emotional support, provide practical guidance and increase awareness of this under-discussed condition.
