Compact High-Directive Electronically-Beam-Switchable Yagi-Uda Antenna for Sub-6G Technology

This paper presents the design of a compact 1D linear Yagi-Uda antenna array consisting of five radiating elements (one driven and four parasitic elements and an internal port for matching), with an inter-element separation of 0.2λ. This array can perform electrical beam switching in the elevational plane using the Network Characteristic Mode (NCM) technique. Allowing the coverage of multiple main directions in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The antenna structure exhibits a compact form factor with respect to the operation wavelength (λ = 50.09 mm) of 1.1 λ x 0.82 λ. The proposed antenna achieves a stable directivity of > 10 dBi in the frequency band 5.84-5.93 GHz and radiation efficiency exceeding 94%, which is interesting for sub-6G applications.
