Solitary fibrous tumor: A contender in the differential diagnosis of a renal mass
ABSTRACT Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that can, although uncommonly, arise in the kidney. Renal SFTs are exceptionally uncommon and often present with nonspecific clinical and radiological features, making diagnosis challenging. We present a case of a 60-year-old male patient with a left renal mass arising from the interpolar area who underwent a radical nephrectomy with a preoperative suspicion of renal cell carcinoma, and histopathological evaluation and immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of SFT. This case highlights the need to consider SFT in the differential diagnosis of renal masses and guide optimal management.
