The Breathing Universe: 507_The Zero-Line

The Breathing Universe Model (BUM) treats the vacuum not as empty background but as a structured, dynamic substrate capable of storing and redistributing tension. Within this framework, a central concept appears repeatedly across the BUM corpus: the “zero-line.” The term is widely intuitive yet frequently misunderstood, because “zero” is commonly associated with emptiness, inactivity, or the absence of energy. In the BUM, that interpretation is explicitly incorrect. This paper provides the first canonical and exhaustive definition of the zero-line and fixes its meaning across all BUM publications. The zero-line is defined as a balance condition between expansive and contractive vacuum tendencies. The zero-line is therefore not a geometric line in space and not a moment in time. It is a balance manifold in pre-temporal, pre-geometric configuration space: a condition of zero net drift that can still contain maximal opposing structure. The vacuum can be fully “loaded” with balanced tendencies. Thus the zero-line is mathematically zero but physically non-empty. This paper explains why the zero-line cannot be treated as an ordinary spatial boundary, why it is not a void, and why it is the natural origin point for (i) emergent time through irreversible snapping, (ii) the directionality associated with asymmetry (BUM interpretation of CP-breaking), and (iii) coherence-limited propagation that yields the observed invariance of the speed of light as a local limiting regime. The paper also classifies multiple “zero-regimes” that appear in the BUM corpus—such as photon proximity to the zero-line, neutrino-like phase-communication behavior, event-horizon balance surfaces, and measurement-like balance interfaces—and shows that these are not different zeros, but different manifestations of the same balance condition at different emergence layers. Finally, the paper provides strict interpretive constraints to prevent misuse of the zero-line concept (for example, treating it as an energy source, a metaphysical void, or a geometric object). The paper’s goal is not to replace existing theories but to stabilize the BUM’s internal language: it ensures that whenever “zero-line” is used in any BUM paper, it refers to one precise physical and mathematical meaning, consistently and without ambiguity.
