Intrauterine Constriction Disorders: A Review of Amniotic Band Syndrome
Amniotic band syndrome (ABS) encompasses a range of congenital anomalies, including disruptions, deformations, and malformations of organs that would otherwise have developed normally. It is termed a syndrome because the pattern of anomalies in ABS stems from a single insult that can arise from multiple etiologies. One proposed mechanism involves incomplete obliteration of the extracelomic space, which may leave the amnion fragile and prone to rupture. The ruptured amnion can then adhere to fetal body parts, producing the characteristic clinical features of ABS.This report presents a case of a patient diagnosed with ABS and outlines the management approach undertaken.
