Exploring Public Acceptance Model of Biomass as an Alternative Energy for Power Sector: A Bibliometric Analysis and Systematic Literature Review

The driving factor for using bioenergy is to promote a circular economy and enhance environmental sustainability. Biomass has potential as a bioenergy source to reduce the energy sector’s dependence on coal and to ensure long-term energy security. Public acceptance is a key factor in shaping an effective energy strategy. Here, we analyzed global publication trends regarding public acceptance of biomass energy development and identified theoretical models using a bibliometric and content review approach. The results indicate an increasing trend in publications about the public acceptance of biomass. Biomass is generally more accepted as an alternative energy source in developing countries than in developed ones. Most models developed to explain public acceptance are based on the theoretical frameworks of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Variables such as financial gain, information, and environmental concern were considered when constructing the biomass energy model.
