Effectiveness of Papaya Seed Biocoagulant (
The limited clean water in Indonesia encourages the treatment of other alternative water sources, namely peat water. Peat water contains high levels of suspended humates and particles and has a low pH, so treatment is required before it can be used. This study aims to examine the potential of papaya seeds (Carica papaya L.) as a natural biocoagulant in the coagulation-flocculation process with a variation in coagulant doses of 0.5 g; 1.0 g; 1.5 g; and 2.0 g; The coagulation process is carried out by rapid stirring for 5 minutes at 100 rpm, and flocculation for 30 minutes at 30 rpm. The evaluation of the effectiveness of the process includes pH, Turbidity (NTU), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Light Transmination (LUX), Sludge Volume Index (SVI), Sludge Mass (SM), as well as floc characterization (size and structure) to determine the optimal conditions of the coagulation-flocculation process.
