Blowing away risk: Integrating airflow into a model for simulating infection spread in moving crowds

During the COVID-19 pandemic, airflow proved essential for reducing indoor infection risk. To observe its effect, we present a fast, efficient simulation model, combining crowd and infection modeling with airflow. In an example scenario, pathogen exposure was reduced by a factor of 25 through airflow integration.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, airflow proved essential for reducing indoor infection risk. To observe its effect, we present a fast, efficient simulation model, combining crowd and infection modeling with airflow. In an example scenario, pathogen exposure was reduced by a factor of 25 through airflow integration.
